Chinese Fans are Showing Huge Response to BLACKPINK, Making the Group Dominate QQ Music Charts

YG's new girl group BLACKPINK has become a mega rookie not only in Korea but also in China.

As of 11 AM on August 11, BLACKPINK’s debut single album “SQAURE ONE” is at no.1 on QQ Music’s popular chart, MV chart, and K-Pop MV chart. “BOOMBAYA”, one of the title tracks of the album, ranked second and third on the K-Pop MV chart and the MV chart, which demonstrates BLACKPINK’s overwhelming popularity in China.

BLACKPINK is also sweeping the charts in Korea. As of 2 PM on August 11, “WHISTLE” is no.1 on the charts of eight major music streaming websites: Melon, Monkey3, Olleh, Naver Music, Bugs, Genie, Mnet, and Soribada. This shows that YG had every reason to be so confident about BLACKPINK.

“WHISTLE” is hip-hop song with a simple beat that is sexy and hypnotizing at the same time. The unique melody that is themed around whistle sounds and the tinkling bubble sounds make the song pleasant to the ear. “BOOMBAYA” is an upbeat song that has a powerful drum beat and unique synth sounds.

BLACKPINK debuted on August 8, and their debut singles swept not only the realtime and daily charts of Korea but also the iTunes charts of other countries in just hours after their release, which is an unusual success for a rookie.

Moreover, the music videos of “WHISTLE” and “BOOMBAYA” posted 6,705,816 and 7,481,565 views respectively as of now. Combined, the two music videos posted 14,187,381 views and are expected to surpass 20 million soon.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will appear on SBS’s Inkigayo on August 14 and perform “WHISTLE” and “BOOMBAYA” on the stage for the first time.
