BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ Selected as the ‘Best Song of 2018’ by the New York Times

YG's Girl group BLACKPINK was listed on ‘The 65 Best Songs of 2018’ announced by the New York Times.
On December 6 (local time), the New York Times announced the 65 biggest hits of the year with a list titled ‘The 65 Best Songs of 2018’.

BLACKPINK who released ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ on June showed off their strong presence as the only K-Pop girl group among global artists such as Ariana Grande, Gallant, the Weekend, and Kendrick Lamar.

The MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ received as much love as the song received. The video surpassed 500 million views in 162 days. The record shortened the previous record by 7 months, which is more than 2 times faster than the pre-existing record. With the new record, BLACKPINK became the group holding a MV that surpassed 500 million views in the shortest amount of time in K-Pop history.

Also, BLACKPINK holds the most number of MVs with ‘over 400 million views’. Including the MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, MVs for ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’ and ‘BOOMBAYAH’ have all surpassed 400 million views, allowing BLACKPINK to hold 3 MVs with ‘over 400 million views’.

While rewriting K-Pop history on YouTube, BLACKPINK has already surpassed 15 million YouTube subscribers and is the K-Pop group to hold the ‘most number of subscribers’. The group received the ‘Diamond Creator Award’ from YouTube this year.

On the same day, BLACKPINK also proved their global presence by being selected as YouTube’s artist of the year. Through ‘YouTube Rewind 2018’ which is a project ran by YouTube every year to settle the yearly trend, the group proved their status as the representative girl group of K-Pop.

BLACKPINK’s global presence will be proven once again through their first-ever world tour titled ‘BLACKPINK 2019 WORLD TOUR [IN YOUR AREA]’, to be held next year on January. BLACKPINK will meet the fans in various locations of the world including Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei.
